Louth Poetry Group

Monday Morning Writing Workshop

Whatever floats your boat; be that script, novel, memoir, poetry, flash fiction, travel, nature, comedy or psychological thrillers. This is a group for consolidation, exploration and support.

Writers talk about what they have been doing (writing-wise) in the previous week. After the brief discussion forum writers break out for a period of personal writing.

On return, the writers read their work to the group who listen attentively before commenting with supportive criticism and praise.

To facilitate their readings the writers submit a pdf of the work they are about to read.

Meetings are every Monday morning from ten until one, please Email louthpoetrygroup@coastmoor.co.uk for the Zoom link code. You are very welcome to join, there is a suggested donation of £4 per session which you can pay here.

Friday Morning Poetry Review

An intimate and thorough exploration of poetry, where each poet brings one of their own poems and one by a poet of their choice

Firstly the chosen poets’ works are read and reviewed. Especially looking at how the poem’s styles and techniques might influence how we develop our own work.

After a short break we return to read our own poems, which may be in various stages of development, the poets may give specific instructions as to what help they are looking for.

To facilitate their readings the writers Email with PDFs of the works they intend to read.

Meetings are every Friday morning from ten until one, please Email louthpoetrygroup@coastmoor.co.uk for the Zoom link code. You are very welcome to join, there is a suggested donation of £4 per session which you can pay here.

The poetry group was started to increase Christopher’s exposure to poetry, during his MA at Nottingham Trent University in 2006-7.

Both initiatives proved to be successful.

Originally meetings were held in the house before The Old Stables was renovated to create an inspirational room for poets and writers to gather.

The Old Stables

These were magical times, writers and poets grew through the camaraderie; the bar continued to rise as variety and depth were developed in equal measure.

Performances evolved out of a place ideal for performing, concerts were put on, and celebratory evenings became a regular feature.

Unfortunately, Covid struck, and our in-person meetings in the old stables sadly had to end. An alternative had to be found.

Zoom

Thankfully we moved online via Zoom, which is proving to be a sustainable and successful platform to continue our creative offerings.

We now have a Monday morning Creative Writing Group and a Friday morning Poetry Review Group.

Both meet from 10:00-13:00 via Zoom; you are very welcome to join, there is a suggested donation of £4 per session which you can pay here.

Please send an email to louthpoetrygroup@coastmoor.co.uk to request Zoom link details.
